Using 1 Timothy 3:8-12 as an outline, this lesson explores the qualifications for deacons and their office of dignity. Paul, the Apostle, provides a detailed list of the attributes men who desire to be deacons must exhibit. This lesson discusses the following points: 1) Deacon is a God given title of dignity, 2) nine spiritual qualifications of a deacon, and 3) two rewards for men of dignity. The lesson concludes with the installment of 3 new deacons serving the Linder congregation and with the invitation to follow Jesus and respond to his message.

In this character study of John, the Baptizer, verses from Luke, Matthew and John are utilized to clarify our understanding of several important personality traits John exhibited. As we look at John’s passion and desire to live like he had nothing to lose, we see: 1) John the Herald, 2) John the Unworthy, 3) John the Martyr, and 4) John the Teacher. The lesson concludes with the encouragement to be like John by using your life to point people to the glory of Jesus and his cross, and the invitation was offered to non-Christians to come and see who Jesus is.

Based on Ephesians 1:1-14, this lesson explores the spiritual blessings we receive “in Christ” as outlined by Paul in his letter to the saints in Ephesus. The lesson discusses the blessings we have in Christ, God’s reasons for bestowing spiritual blessings on us, the reality of God’s pre-planning of these blessings, and identifying some specific blessings. It concludes with the encouragement to meditate on the many blessings in Christ and with an invitation to come to Christ in order to receive these many blessings.

This lesson explores the necessity of dealing with the troubled waters that life can bring. Beginning from the lyrics of the 1970’s song “Bridge over Troubled Waters” and moving through relevant scriptures from Job, John, James, and Hebrews, the ideas explored include: 1) the reasons for troubled waters in life, 2) remembering that God never leaves us, 3) trusting in God’s timing, and 4) remaining faithful through the troubled waters. The lesson concludes with 3 godly principles and an invitation to come to Jesus who is our “Bridge”.

This lesson uses the text in Matthew 9:35-38 to explore the need to build a bridge to reap the harvest of souls waiting to be gathered. The three main points discussed are: 1) Envisioning the harvest, 2) Building a bridge to the harvest plan, and 3) the urgency of reaping the harvest. The lesson concludes with the encouragement for disciples to get serious about participating in the harvest, and to those who are not yet followers of Jesus, to come and be a part of God’s family.

This lesson is based on the text of Hebrews 10:19-25 and explores the principle of the importance of the assembly. The lesson concludes with the encouragement to reach out in kindness to help someone find Christ. To the non-Christian, an invitation was offered to take the first step towards Jesus, our bridge, because today is the day of salvation.
